Welcome to Slum Aid

Non-Profit Organisation

01We are working with slum dwellers in Mumbai. Would you like to help? SlumAid is aimed at people who wish to volunteer to work with slum dwellers. Our volunteers work with local NGOs in health clinics, schools and community development projects.

Slums in Mumbai

02Mumbai is one of the great cities of the world. As a world class commercial and financial centre, with great and historic architecture and many facilities for tourism, it is a city of which India is rightly proud.  But there is a deeply tragic side to Mumbai also. Its vibrancy and wealth attracts millions from the countryside onto this crowded island and the social facilities are incapable of handling such numbers. As a result there is vast and almost unimaginable poverty for those who are unable to take hold of the opportunities and are forced to live in slums.

The Project

03 SlumAid is aimed at people of any age from the UK who want to work with slum dwellers. The project works in partnership with local NGOs in Mumbai, Taloja and Jaipur. Volunteers travel to India for placements of varying periods ranging from two weeks to six months. They work on projects for slum dwellers e.g. health clinics, schools, English language classes and community development. SlumAid is run by New Millennium Network Limited, a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.

Why Not Volunteer

04 SlumAid is seeking to harness the energy and commitment of volunteers from the UK by enabling them to travel to India and work with our partner NGOs on their various programmes for slum dwellers. They will experience slum conditions at first hand in a manner that will broaden their horizons and give them wider experience by working in health clinics, providing additional education, participating in employment generation projects and generally helping to improve the living conditions of slum dwellers.
